Transport Museum’s Relocation to Debrecen Officially Cancelled
The relocation of the Transport Museum to Debrecen has been permanently taken off the agenda, meaning that the institution will remain on the site of the Northern Railway Repair Works in Kőbánya, Budapest, as announced by Minister for Transport and Investment Dávid Vitézy at a press conference on 20 June.
As previously reported, the planned investment was first announced in May 2024 by former Minister János Lázár, who stated that the new Transport Museum would be built in Debrecen, near the BMW factory. According to the former minister, the HUF 150 billion investment would also have served the purpose of “helping everyone understand what driving a car means in the present day and what perspective public transport offers alongside it.” The design competition for the Debrecen Transport Museum was launched in July 2024, and the first visual plans were presented in Debrecen in October 2024.
According to Dávid Vitézy’s latest announcement, the museum will remain on the site of the Northern Railway Repair Works in Kőbánya, Budapest.
