Exhibition of Works by Fresh Architect Graduates Opens at New City Hall

Opened this Monday by department and city leadership, an exhibition featuring drawings and scale models by 15 recent Architecture MSc graduates at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen is on display at the New City Hall Gallery until the end of August.

At the opening ceremony, János Vági, Head of the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen, emphasised that architecture is a matter of public interest and that dialogue with society is essential. For this reason, the department aims to make its activities and the work of its students better known to the people of Debrecen. “These connections are extremely important. Through our messages, we aim to reach residents, decision-makers and all those who use architecture. This exhibition is one such opportunity, where visitors can view Master’s degree projects. Those exhibiting here are now qualified architects,” he said.

Deputy Mayor for Culture István Puskás stated that discussions concerning the built heritage have encouragingly become a vibrant part of public life in the city in recent years. “I have reviewed this year’s thesis projects, some of which are directly connected to Debrecen. They immediately set one thinking about how these ideas might be used, because they represent entirely valid and potentially implementable architectural solutions, for example for infill sites,” he remarked.

István Gábor, Chief Architect of Debrecen, highlighted that significant developments have taken place in architecture education in Debrecen in recent years, resulting in the emergence of a Central European cultural environment, of which the presentation of the Master’s degree projects is a current reflection. “Looking through these works, I was struck by the encouraging feeling that today’s young generation possesses far greater potential than has been evident over the past decades,” he said.

The exhibition can be viewed at the New City Hall Gallery until the end of summer.
