Construction and Demolition Waste Disposal to Become Fee-Based

While construction and demolition waste is not part of the concession-based waste streams, MOHU previously allowed residents to dispose of up to 150 kilograms per day free of charge at waste yards. From 1 July, however, free acceptance will be abolished and a gross fee of 36 forints per kilogram will apply to the disposal of such waste, with no quantity limit.

Invoices for the fee will be issued retrospectively and must be paid by a specified deadline. The amount covers exclusively the costs associated with waste management. This change was introduced because several contractors nationwide had abused the possibility of free disposal. “A quantity control system had already been in place at waste yards to prevent construction companies from disposing of large volumes of demolition waste, such as material generated during apartment renovations, free of charge by registering as private individuals, as waste treatment involves significant costs,” explained Csilla Domokos, spokesperson for AKSD.

The Regional Waste Management Centre remains the local disposal site for construction and demolition waste. Residents must arrange transport themselves, and the fee is determined based on the weighed net quantity. AKSD also offers container rental services for those who wish to dispose of larger volumes of debris.
