Section of Piac Street Becomes Car-free for Weekends until End of August
The sections of Piac Street between Széchenyi Street and Arany János Street, and between Kossuth Street and Szent Anna Street, will be car-free every weekend from 17 July to 30 August 2026. The restrictions will be in place from 6.00 p.m. on Fridays until 6.00 p.m. on Sundays. During these periods, pedestrians will be able to use the carriageway.
Restaurants and cafés along this section of Piac Street will extend their outdoor seated areas and offer a variety of colourful events for visitors looking to relax and enjoy the city centre. The closed section of the street will also host a range of cultural activities, including shop window exhibitions, children’s events, concerts and guided walks, enriching the city’s summer programme.
Trams will continue to operate through the closed section of the street at reduced speeds. Vehicles delivering goods to businesses located within the restricted area may enter on Saturdays and Sundays between 4.00 a.m. and 10.00 a.m., provided they have a special access permit. Residents will also be permitted to enter the closed section in order to access their properties, but parking will not be permitted.
Drivers are kindly requested to comply with the provisions of the Hungarian Highway Code, follow the temporary traffic signs in place, observe all traffic regulations, and drive with due care and increased caution in the affected area during the above periods, paying particular attention to pedestrians and cyclists.
