More and More Life-Saving Points Across Debrecen
16 October is World Restart a Heart Day, which aims to raise awareness of the fact that first aid can save lives. Events promoting first aid are held across Hungary to mark the occasion, including CPR demonstrations and practical sessions, as well as fun activities in schools and other institutions.
Promoting CPR skills is also a priority in Debrecen. The Hungarian National Ambulance Service awards its Life-Saving Point designation to institutions, businesses and organisations that have an automated external defibrillator (AED) and several members of staff trained in the skills needed to save lives.
The number of Life-Saving Points in Debrecen continues to increase, with Ady Endre Grammar School joining the initiative most recently, becoming the city’s 27th Life-Saving Point.
Being prepared is particularly important because sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere. Experts warn that the assistance provided by people at the scene before the ambulance arrives can make a decisive difference.
The Szív City mobile app is also growing in popularity. It supports community-based life-saving efforts by alerting registered volunteer rescuers to cardiac arrests in public places nearby and providing information about local defibrillators. The aim is to ensure that help reaches anyone in need as quickly as possible, before the ambulance crew arrives.
The Hungarian National Ambulance Service also offers training in the basics of CPR. Anyone who wants to be better prepared to respond to an emergency can find information about current training opportunities on the service’s official website. The Hajdú-Bihar County Organisation of the Hungarian Red Cross also regularly holds CPR demonstrations, training sessions and first-aid courses.
Information about current training sessions, courses and examinations is available on the Hajdú-Bihar Red Cross website.
