Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, MODEM will host an English-language tour led by curator Tamás Don of the exhibition MODEM 20: Selections from the MODEM Collection on 29 October, starting at 5:00 p.m.
About the exhibition
Founded in 2006, the MODEM Centre for Modern and Contemporary Arts is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The concept of the exhibition reflects on this milestone occasion. Since its inception, collaboration with Debrecen’s cultural and educational institutions has been of central importance to MODEM. To mark the anniversary, twenty partner organizations from Debrecen were invited to select a work from MODEM’s collection that they consider particularly significant and to provide a short statement of up to 1,500 characters explaining their choice.
Through this anniversary exhibition, MODEM aims not only to showcase the cultural diversity of Debrecen but also to present a kaleidoscopic view of the artworks in its collection through the perspectives of partner institutions. The second section of the exhibition features artists who have been connected to MODEM in various ways, including previous exhibitions, but whose works MODEM has not previously had the opportunity to acquire for its collection.
