The application period for prospective first-year students to primary schools has begun

Parents now have time until 20 February to choose the best school for their children and submit the form to the preferred schools.

The schools run by the Debrecen School District Centre expect around 1,300 applications from prospective first-year pupils.

Currently, 440 children are attending the Szoboszlói Úti Primary School, 60 of whom are first-year students. The school is popular for its advanced English language and introduction to digital culture education. “We have three basic pillars: content, quality and openness, and we implement this with a very innovative teaching staff. We are a child-friendly, family-friendly, future-friendly school. We try to prepare children for the requirements of the 21st century,” the Principal of Szoboszlói úti Primary School Orsolya Kammererné Nyéki underlined.

Children of compulsory school age can apply to primary schools until the 20th of February. There are currently 1,360 first-graders in the 30 institutions the Debrecen School District Centre runs. The same number of pupils is expected to be admitted in September.

“This is a very important decision in a family’s life because it is not just a school choice but a community. A community that will last a lifetime, as your child will be attending the same institution for eight years,” Director of the Debrecen School District Centre, László Türk emphasised. Approximately 2,100 students are enrolled in Debrecen every year. The trend shows that one-third of them choose a church school and two-thirds a school maintained by the school district.

“24 institutions are waiting for students and young people in Debrecen. Nineteen districts, two cities, and three institutions dealing with students with special educational needs await applications. I am very confident that the number of applications expected by the school district will be met,” Mayor László Papp said.

Parents can find the school application forms on the educational institutions’ websites. They must be submitted by the 20th of February to the school where the prospective first-year student makes the first application. The enrollment will take place between the 10th and the 11th of April.
