Starting in April, Lufthansa will fly between Debrecen and Munich five times a week

In Debrecen, Lufthansa switched to larger planes last April, and now they are increasing the number of flights.

Lufthansa currently flies three times a week between Debrecen and Munich, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Last April, it was announced that they would fly with larger, 215-seat aircraft on two flights a week.

From April, Lufthansa will also operate on Thursdays and Sundays between Debrecen and Munich, as stated on the Facebook page of BMW Group Plant Debrecen. According to the announcement, their financial director, Eske Herrstroem, was also present at the capacity expansion announcement.

They added that their colleagues in Germany are also receiving intensive training as the purely electric Neue Klasse model generation approaches series production.

“We are one factory and one team, where the close cooperation of different departments ensures that all processes are in harmony by the start of series production. Therefore, we are very pleased that the connection between Debrecen and Munich will be realized almost every day of the week,” they said.

Mayor László Papp commented on the news on his Facebook page, saying, “The presence of BMW in our city also supports the airport, among many other positive economic factors.”

Several new flights have been announced at Debrecen International Airport in recent weeks

It has been revealed that charter flights to Crete and Heraklion, organized by Kartago Tours, will also depart from Debrecen. From June, their charters will also be available to Antalya in Turkey and Monastir in Tunisia. This means six new flights will start at Debrecen International Airport within just over a month.

The Hungarian subsidiary of the Czech Smartwings group has added two new destinations from Debrecen to its 2025 summer schedule. From early June to the end of September, flying from Debrecen to Barcelona and Tirana will be possible once a week. According to plans, the airline’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft will fly to the Spanish city on Thursdays and to the Albanian capital on Mondays.

A week earlier, the Israeli airline Israir announced that it plans to re-launch the Debrecen-Tel Aviv flight at the end of April, which was a popular Wizz Air flight before the 2023 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel.

Wizz Air will restart its flight to Larnaca, Cyprus, at the beginning of April.

At the December general assembly, Mayor László Papp discussed how, after Wizz Air significantly reduced the number of its flights from Debrecen due to aircraft capacity problems, the municipality and the majority owner of the airport operating company, the Ministry of National Economy, are continuously working on expanding the destinations.

The city leader hopes 3-4 new airlines may appear at the airport.
