Exemplary cooperation between industry and education is crucial for the future of Debrecen

At the “Industry Day in Debrecen” event, which was accompanied by a professional exhibition, the leaders of the University of Debrecen, the Municipality of Debrecen, as well as representatives of education and multinational companies provided information on the cooperation that will determine the future of the city. Managing Director of the Debrecen subsidiary of EMERSON | NI, Róbert Hosszu, was one of the speakers at the programme in Lovarda on the 26th of  March, talking about the US company’s future-oriented investments in education and innovation.

“The economy of the future is based on the close cooperation between industry, education and innovation,” Zoltán Szilvássy said in his speech.”Our aim is to ensure that engineers graduating from our university enter the labour market equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge, for this, partnership with industry is essential,” the Rector of the University of Debrecen added.

“In the past decade, Debrecen has embarked on a conscious economic development path, the results of which can now be measured not only nationally but also internationally,” Mayor of Debrecen, László Papp emphasised. He also said that thanks to the cooperation between industry, education and the municipality, Debrecen is now one of the most attractive destinations for international investors.

“The cooperation between industry, university and local government has already produced tangible results in recent decades. The emergence of a company such as EMERSON | NI, in addition to its high-tech technology, has positively shaped the economic and educational environment of the University of Debrecen with its new way of thinking,” as the Dean of the University of Debrecen, Géza Husi mentioned in his welcome speech.

“For us, supporting education is not only a CSR issue, but a strategic matter,” Managing Director of EMERSON | NI’s Debrecen subsidiary, Róbert Hosszu explained.

“We believe that the engineers, technicians and innovators of the future are sitting in classrooms today and it’s up to us to give them the support and inspiration to get them on their way. That’s why we have created, among other things, the WATCH programme with Agora Science Experience Centre to specifically inspire and support girls on their path to careers in science and engineering,” he added.

This year, the fourth class has already started and so far, a total of 200 tenth-grade girls have discovered the beauty and strengths of engineering careers.

Róbert Hosszú pointed out that EMERSON | NI is involved in education and invests in the talents of the future, from primary school to university engineering (master) level.

“And the latest collaboration will soon include the opening of a laboratory at the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Technology, where students can gain real industrial experience. This investment will be EMERSON | NI’s largest ever educational investment in Hungary,” the expert stressed.
