Wunderbar Festival opened in Debrecen
The German language and culture are gaining more and more importance in Debrecen year after year, and are also celebrated by the Wunderbar Festival. The aim of the event is for the younger generations to learn about and cherish German traditions, as the economic and cultural development of the city is closely linked to the German communities.
The German-speaking children of the Nagyerdei Kindergarten performed a poetry programme for the audience at the Wunderbar Festival. The primary aim of the event is to popularise the German language and culture among young people. According to the president of the Debrecen German Cultural Forum, German culture has strengthened in the city thanks to the economic boom. In recent years, Debrecen has also become a regional cultural center. “The German language represents a connection to the cultural sphere in Europe, which really creates an opportunity for us to participate in a common European thinking, you don’t just have to think of the big names, Goethe, Schiller, Adorno but it’s really just that Vienna is nearby, Berlin is nearby,” President of the German Cultural Forum in Debrecen Andrea Horváth highlighted. The slogan of the event is “Immerse yourself in German culture and discover the German traditions of our region!”
German companies are playing an increasingly important role in the city’s economic life. In Debrecen, there is an opportunity to learn German through bilingual training from primary school, through secondary school and up to vocational training, and thanks to the German language institute, young people can also learn the language at the University of Debrecen. Mayor László Papp said that Debrecen has all the conditions for the youth to build a successful career with knowledge of the German language. ”It can be said that for the future, it is truly of great importance how many children in Debrecen can speak, communicate and communicate in German, how many know German history and culture, of course, all this in addition to Hungarian,” Mayor László Papp emphasised.
The 4th Wunderbar Festival will popularise German culture with hundreds of programmes throughout the country until Saturday. On the occasion of the festival, literary, cultural, educational and theatrical events are taking place in 220 institutions across the country, which can be found on the website www.wunderbarfesztival.hu.
