A one-million-euro lab has been established at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen is continuing to develop. Today, three new laboratories were also handed over, which were implemented in cooperation with partner companies. One of the laboratories was developed with the help of Emerson | NI in Debrecen, and this is their largest educational investment in Hungary to date.

The laboratory, which was developed at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen, in cooperation with Emerson | NI, cost almost EUR 1 million, or about  HUF 400 million. The company provided 70 percent of the investment cost. This is their largest educational investment in Hungary to date. The company has created a so-called embedded systems and measurement technology laboratory, where students can gain real industrial experience.

“One of my priorities was to try to focus on fewer, but strategic, collaborations out of the very many that we have, and to invest much more in those, to take them very seriously. For us, based on this strategy, the number one partner in education is the University of Debrecen,” CEO of Emerson | NI, Róbert Hosszu said.

Several developments have been implemented at the Faculty of Engineering recently. At the beginning of the year, Krones Hungary Ltd. also established a design laboratory, and then the newest wing of the building was handed over, thanks to which the building complex became 3 thousand square metres larger. In half a year, Wing B is expected to be handed over as well.

“There is life in these buildings, and there is more and more life. With the industrialisation of Debrecen and the changing nature of the city, there is a demand for new knowledge, which our faculty seems to be able to meet,” Chancellor of the University of Debrecen Zoltán Bács emphasised.

Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa said at the event that 20 years before the Faculty of Engineering was still in question in the city, but today we can say that  in practice, the faculty ranks at least second in national indicators.

“The Faculty of Engineering has been able to keep up with the very rapid transformation that has taken place in the city’s economy, even at European level. On the one hand, it is fine that companies come to the city and create new jobs, but they would not come to the city if they did not see very good foundations,” Lajos Barcsa highlighted.

The programme also saw the inauguration of two more laboratories of Rohde & Schwarz and Festo Hungary Ltd., which were also set up at the Faculty of Technology.
