Debrecen International Airport gets a new runway, planning begins
László Papp added on his Facebook page that “The airport plays an important role in both leisure and business tourism. This development could further increase the passenger traffic at Debrecen International Airport.”
The Mayor said in Debrecen Television’s Public Affairs program last week that, “In addition to maintaining the current runway, a new runway will be built at Debrecen Airport to replace the previous one, which was in poor condition and has since been demolished. When the new runway is ready, with a navigation system, flights will be transferred to it.”
Currently, travellers can fly from Debrecen to London and Cyprus with Wizz Air, and to Munich with Lufthansa. It was recently announced that the German airline will fly between Debrecen and Munich five times a week from April instead of three times a week. Universal Air’s scheduled flight to Leipzig and Malta started on Sunday.
This summer, there will be charter flights to Barcelona, Spain, Tirana, Albania, Antalya, Turkey, Monastir, Tunisia, Burgas, Bulgaria and Heraklion, Crete, Greece.
Israeli Israir plans to launch the Debrecen-Tel-Aviv flight in May, and Ryanair is also considering launching flights to Debrecen.
