Sports day in Debrecen is back in May

Debrecen Sports Centre will organise the “The world is whole with you” sports day for kindergarten and school children in 2025. At the event at the end of May, children will be able to choose the sport they like best with the help of coaches and former competitors.

For the eleventh time, Debrecen Sports Centre will hold its traditional sports day in May this year, a press conference was held in this regard on April 15, 2025, Tuesday, at Gyulai István Athletic Stadium. The aim of “The world is whole with you” is to introduce children to as many sports as possible in one day.

“The primary reason for organising this event is to help children, but especially parents, to try out as many sports as possible on a given day and then decide where they would like to enrol from September, what kind of sport they would like to play,” Managing Director of the Debrecen Sports Centre Ltd., András Becsky said. 

At the event, Debrecen Sports School’s (abbreviated as DSI in Hungarian) qualified coaches and former competitors try to instill in young people a desire for regular physical exercise and an active lifestyle in a playful way.

“The love and joy of movement cannot be started too early. I think the first place to start is obviously the nursery school, but it’s mainly the kindergarten where children can learn about it.  Nowadays, children are turning towards the electronic world, but we must definitely help them to love movement, get outside, and love sports,” the Head of the Hétszínvirág Sport KIndergarten, Erzsébet Szabó emphasised.

According to Deputy Mayor Diána Széles, cooperation between Debrecen kindergartens and the sports centre is crucial for raising healthy children, a great example of which is “The world is whole with you” sports day.

“This event is also the result of an important cooperation. All the kindergartens in Debrecen are represented, and they come to the call of the sports centre to show them the possibilities of each sport and department in the sports centre, and what sports they can try. More than 20 sports will be showcased thanks to the sports centre. I would very much like to thank the kindergartens of Debrecen for seeing this event as an opportunity and for helping to reach out to families,” the Deputy Mayor said.

Based on the experience of previous years, about 2000 visitors are expected on 24 May 2025 in the Oláh Gábor Street sports complex.
