Unique free multisport programme to start in September at the Vénkerti Primary School

Unique free multisport programme to start in September at the Vénkerti Primary School

Starting next school year, the school’s first-year students will be able to learn about various sports in a playful way every afternoon. The initiative is in line with the city’s strategy, which also places a high emphasis on the development of sports.

“Vénkerti is one of the sportiest schools in Debrecen. The institution, which educates around 500 children, has a number of certified competitors and, in partnership with the sports school, will support the development of physical activity and healthy lifestyles by introducing a variety of sports from autumn. This can help with sports education as well as Vénkert school enrollment,” the School District Director László Türk said at the programme’s presentation. “The institution and the school’s management as well are open, as we are convinced that enrollment is very important. This programme is also very important for the pupils and their parents who come here, as they can select and see what their children are talented in on the spot during the afternoon lessons,” he highlighted.

The local government is spending more than one and a half billion forints specifically on sports this year. Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa emphasized, sports are a priority area in Debrecen, and the school initiative fits well with the city’s strategy. “Just like in the economy and education, we must be among the first in sports, because we build our future through sports, because we can raise children in the spirit of a healthy lifestyle who will later be able to live a healthy lifestyle as adults,” he summed up.

It is expected that 60 first-graders will participate in the free afternoon multi-sport sessions next school year, the professional programme of which was developed jointly by the elementary school’s professional team with the DSI’s professional coaches. “We will launch it in an ascending system, so from September for the first grade, from next September for the first and second grades, and so on. We focused primarily on basic sports, and within that we would like to present athletics and gymnastics in a playful way; these are the sports that can also lay the foundation for other sports,” Managing Director András Becsky emphasised. The multi-sport programme will also be complemented by thematic sports days, on which the institution’s students can try out even more sports.
