Road renovations continue in Debrecen:Phase II modernisation of Izsó Street has begun
Within the framework of the D2030 programme, large-scale road renovation works will continue in Debrecen this year, aiming to replace old and damaged asphalt pavements and thereby improve the quality and safety of traffic. As part of this, the modernisation of the second phase of Izsó Street, the section between Dobsina Street and Besze János Street, has begun.
The primary objective of the D2030 programme is to continually upgrade the road network of Debrecen and meet the expectations of the modern era. Similar to previous years, in 2025, special attention will be paid to large-scale road renovations, during which worn-out asphalt pavements will be replaced and, if necessary, local structural repairs to the roadway will be carried out. This will make traffic safer and more comfortable for the people of Debrecen.
The large-scale road renovation of the first phase of Izsó Street (the section between Kardos Albert Street and Dobsina Street) was completed in June 2024. This year, as a continuation of this, construction work on the second phase of Izsó Street (the section between Dobsina Street and Besze János Street) has begun.
Regarding the modernisation, municipal representative Róbert Juráskó said that Debrecen is committed to new developments; therefore, road renovations will continue this year as part of the D2030 programme. The investment in the second phase of Izsó Street has now begun in his area, after which the entire street will be renovated. In the meantime, he asks for the residents’ patience, as there will be traffic obstacles during the modernisation.
During the renovation, the worn asphalt wearing course will be milled off, followed by the laying of the new asphalt wearing course. At the same time, the contractor will raise the level of the existing utility fittings and, if necessary, replace the local asphalt binding layer. The cost of renovating the 144-metre-long section is HUF 45 million gross.
The works are expected to be completed by the end of June 2025, subject to weather conditions. However, the contractor will do everything possible to complete the investment as soon as possible. During this time, motorists can expect temporary traffic restrictions on the affected road section. They are asked to drive according to the temporary road signs posted, rather than out of habit.
