Mosquito Control in Debrecen on July 1 and 2, 2025

The Municipality of Debrecen informs residents that ground-based chemical mosquito control will be carried out in the city on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 1 and 2, 2025, after sunset. The National Directorate General for Disaster Management organizes the operation. (Rain dates are July 3 and 4.)

The operation schedule is as follows:

  • July 1 (Tuesday) – 4 vehicles will operate in the following areas: Újkert, Vénkert, Libakert, Sestakert, Józsa, Nyulas, Liget Residential Park, Akadémiakert, Köntöskert, Csigekert, Nagysándor-telep, Fészek Residential Park, Tócóskert, Tócóvölgy, Hatvan Street Garden, Vargakert, Postakert, Széchényi Garden, Tégláskert, Epreskert, and Kerekestelep.
  • July 2 (Wednesday) – 4 vehicles will treat Kassai Road and surroundings, Júliatelep, Old Town, Csapókert, Meggyes, Szabadságtelep, Bihari Garden, Homokkert, József Attila-telep, and Lencztelep.

The schedule is subject to change due to weather or technical issues.

Chemicals used:

  • Deltasect Plus 1.2 ULV or Deltasect Plus 20 ULV mosquito control concentrate.
  • Applied in small quantities (0.6 litres/hectare).
  • Targets only sensitive insects.
  • Not harmful to humans or warm-blooded animals.
  • Active ingredients degrade within a few hours.

Recommendations for residents:

  • Collect or cover children’s toys, food, utensils, and laundry stored outdoors on the day of treatment.
  • Keep windows and doors closed during and for 1 hour after treatment.
  • Turn off ventilation systems that draw in outside air.
  • Wash fruits and vegetables grown in treated areas before consumption or processing.
  • Avoid staying near the treatment vehicles during operation.

To prevent mosquito breeding:

  • Eliminate or cover standing water in containers and objects outdoors.
  • Regularly empty or cover small stagnant water sources around buildings.
