The Baptists receive significant government support for their new church center in Debrecen
A kindergarten and nursery will also be included in the New Hope Baptist Church’s building on Epreskert Street.
Hungary’s 2026 national budget, as published in the Hungarian Gazette, reveals that the state is providing substantial support— HUF 315 million —for the construction of the Hungarian Baptist Church’s new congregational centre in Debrecen.
The congregation, founded in 2001 in a small apartment, has now grown into a 140-member community, leading to the need for a dedicated property.
The envisioned New Hope Baptist Congregational Center on Epreskert Street will house a prayer hall, a nursery, and a kindergarten. Rather than building a cathedral that would be used only for a few hours a week, they decided to create a space that would include not just a prayer house and church but also a nursery and kindergarten.
The 2,200-square-meter centre will be constructed in phases on a previously vacant lot formerly managed by the Ministry of Defense, located on Epreskert Street.
The Baptists have already raised several hundred million forints for the project and can now also count on state assistance. They also plan to build sports fields on the premises, which will be available not only to congregation members but also to the surrounding community.
The Baptists have previously built a 28-place nursery in Debrecen, located in the Huszti-kert residential area, which was recently opened.
