In addition to the party, safety will also be a key word for the Campus Festival
As well as fun, safety is just as important during the Campus Festival. The biggest summer festival in Eastern Hungary is aimed at families as well as people looking for fun. There will be three types of wristbands to ensure a safe festival experience. This will be the tenth time that the so-called “Harm Reduction Centre” will be in operation.
The Campus Festival area was already taking shape spectacularly at the beginning of the week. The Civil Village (Civil Falu) and the Main Stage are also under construction, and the finishing touches are being made.
On Monday, the canopy of the trees was inspected once again in order to avoid accidents. According to festival director Péter Miklósvölgyi, if experts indicate a wind speed of eighty, the festival will definitely be stopped. Safety is the most important thing at Campus this year as well; this was the motto of Monday’s press conference.
“From a safety perspective, the most important thing for us is that the guest who comes here feels at all times that if they have any problems, they have someone to turn to. There is a police officer everywhere, a colleague who can help. There is an information point, and there is a phone number where you can ask for help right away,” festival director Péter Miklósvölgyi said.
The so-called “Harm Reduction Centre”, which moved to the Nagyerdei Stadium last year, has been operating for 10 years. Here they help those who have taken their alcohol consumption to the extreme. According to experience, even people under the age of 16 come here.
According to experts, the most important thing for young people is to have their mobile phones charged, their location service turned on, their parents to write down their friends’ phone numbers, and not to mix alcohol.
The organisers also drew attention to the fact that festival-goers in trouble can call the phone number (+36) 30 244 8282 for help at any time.
“We have about 100-140 contact events during the four days. This means that there are about a hundred cases where we actually have to take action. These usually stem largely from excessive alcohol consumption, with rare exceptions of one or two illegal substance uses. This also appears every year, but it is not typical,” president of the Spiritual Strength for Youth Association Béla Szilárd Juhász said.
In order to ensure a safe festival experience, three different wristbands are being sold. The wristbands of those under 10 will also include the parents’ phone numbers.
Those under 18 will receive a blue wristband, so they cannot be served alcoholic beverages on the festival grounds. The white wristband will be for those over 18.
Deputy Mayor Diána Széles to raise awareness that parents also have a great responsibility in properly informing children about possible dangers.
“We consider it very important to educate not only children but also parents and adults as early as possible about what it is like to participate in such a large mass event. After all, even though young people are familiar with the area around the stadium, life here is completely different in the dark and in the noise. And this needs to be experienced separately. So we want to prepare those who are new to the festival,” Deputy Mayor Diána Széles explained.
During the festival, DKV will launch special services called Campus Express, which will transport passengers from the Main Station to the event venue with fewer stops than usual.
