Lake Békás bridge to be renovated
The Lake Békás bridge will be renovated after the end of the tourist season. Mayor László Papp held a press conference on the site on July 18, 2025, about the details of the renovation.
László Papp recalled that the comprehensive renovation of Nagyerdei Park (Great Forest Park) was completed in 2014, and the area is now one of the most attractive and spectacular from a tourism perspective, as it serves as the venue for many events. He said that this is the difficulty in renovating the bridge, as it is necessary to choose the right time for the works.
The mayor stated that HUF 70 million will be allocated from this year’s budget for the renovation of the bridge, with work set to commence after the end of the tourist season, in the second half of September.
He emphasised that before the renovation begins, the elements that pose a risk of accidents will be removed and replaced, ensuring the bridge’s safety. He said that park maintenance started the repair of the bridge on July 14. Then, due to the Campus Festival, it paused and will continue on Monday, July 21.
He noted that during the repair, the boards were dismantled and crushed stone was spread over an area of about 40 square metres. The boards that were still usable during the replacement of the covering will be used and rebuilt during the repair of the sections above the water.
In September, the reconstruction of the bridge will first take place on the sections that were temporarily replaced with crushed stone, in the rebuilding of the wooden covering.
