Csokonai National TheatreThe Csokonai National Theatre continues its thematic theatre tours in the anniversary season! As a novelty, on September 28, the audience is invited to a new event, with the company’s singers leading a Musical Theatre Tour on the occasion of World Music Day.
This time, the singers of the theatre’s 73-year-old opera department will guide visitors behind the scenes of the theatre. During the theatre tour, visitors will not only be able to take a look at the exciting spaces of the Theatre, but in unexpected moments, the creative processes will also come to life before their eyes.
During the special occasion, singer Imre Donkó will introduce visitors to the Theatre’s most guarded secrets, while the choir of the Csokonai National Theatre will enrich the adventurous journey behind the scenes with surprising musical moments. The walk will feature well-known musical excerpts and melodies, which will sometimes transport the audience to a distant journey, sometimes to a seductive moment, or sometimes to the world of cunning or love.
About the Theatre
Csokonai National Theater is the first permanent theater in Debrecen. The theater building, featuring Moorish and Byzantine elements, was constructed in the Romantic style between 1861 and 1865, based on the designs of architect Antal Szkalnitzky. The theater officially opened on 7 October 1865, later renamed after Hungarian poet Csokonai Vitéz Mihály in 1915 and receiving national theater status in 2012.
Apart from its theatrical performances, with a rich repertoire of drama, opera, musicals, and modern dance, including productions by the Gradient Contemporary Ballet, the theatre also offers guided tours that take visitors behind the scenes of one of Hungary’s most historic and iconic theatres in Hungarian and English too. These tours are led by actors and/or singers from the theatre company, providing a unique and immersive experience that reveals the hidden spaces, creative processes, and rich history of the 160-year-old building.
Tickets for the tour on September 28 are available exclusively in advance at the theater’s box office or on jegy.csokonaiszinhaz.hu. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind journey into the heart of Musical Theatre!
