The four-week renovation of Keleti Railway Station also affect Debrecen travellers
CEO of the MÁV Group, Zsolt Hegyi, shared on Facebook on Monday that the four-week renovation of the Keleti Railway Station has begun. This time, the railway infrastructure will be renovated, not the historic main building, which may be less spectacular, but it serves the purpose of ensuring that the station can operate reliably for years to come.
He emphasized that the work began in the last, perhaps the least busy, week of summer and will continue in the first, perhaps even less busy, week of September in order to cause as little uncertainty and inconvenience to passengers as possible.
He said that they spent Monday morning with their senior colleagues at Kőbánya-felső, which is the most important transfer point during the current track closure. They spoke to passengers and railway colleagues, and they are trying to help and make this extremely busy traffic situation even smoother.
Most trains from Debrecen arrive at Nyugati Railway Station, but there are two daily services that, in the traditional order, would have the Keleti Railway Station as their final destination.
Zsolt Hegyi asked everyone not to travel out of habit in the next four weeks:Information on how to travel most easily during the renovation of the Keleti railway station can be found on the website mavcsoport.hu/keleti.
The investment will be implemented in such a way that the timetable offer will not be reduced and that the same number of trains will run during the weeks of renovation, with a similar or greater capacity than before.
Only the departure and destination stations will change temporarily; the role of Keleti will be temporarily taken over by the Nyugati, Kelenföld, and Kőbánya-felső stations, as well as additional transfer points, where the transport hubs of the railway and the capital will be connected by the usual capital services and new options.
