Join MODEM Modern and Contemporary Art Center as it marks its 19th birthday with a vibrant lineup of exhibitions, interactive programs, and a high-energy afterparty. Whether you’re passionate about art, nostalgic for classic board games, or ready to dance the night away, this event has something for everyone.

On September 20, MODEM welcomes everyone with special programs throughout the day and an afterparty in the evening.

MODEM Birthday programs:

3:00 p.m. – Curator-led tour of the exhibition “Untold Stories”, followed by a presentation of the exhibition catalog

4:30 p.m. – Guided tour of the exhibition “What Year Are You? “where visitors can discover grandparents’ board games and exciting gaming experiences for multiple generations. The tour will be led by Gábor Karmacsi, head of the Játszóház Projekt Debrecen.

5:00 p.m. – Guided tour by photographer Márton Fejes at the exhibition “Szipál 101: Light–Life–Legacy”.

5:30–8:00 p.m. – Board game marathon by Játszóház Projekt Debrecen: a special board game experience focusing more on modern board games, where people of all ages can discover the joy of playing together.

MODEM birthday afterparty – XYZ Festival

8:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m. – As the sun sets, the celebration continues with the XYZ Festival, featuring live music and DJ sets from AcousteriA, DJ Spencer, Andro, and more, transforming MODEM into a late-night cultural hotspot. This isn’t just a party: each performer represents a different generation and plays everything from classic rhythms to the latest hits.

Between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., photographer Márton Fejes will be waiting for those interested in having their portrait taken at the “Szipál 101 exhibition”.
