Autumn Crafts in Debrecen: Celebrating Folk Art and Tradition

The Debrecen and Hajdú-Bihar County Folk Art Association awaits those interested with a rich program in September, at the House of Folk Crafts.

The month is dedicated to preserving traditions and crafts, with numerous workshops and events. The events faithfully reflect the association’s motto: “From authentic artists, natural materials, original patterns, and tried-and-tested techniques.”

Specialty Workshops

Those who would like to deepen their knowledge of a particular craft technique can choose from six different specialty classes at the House of Folk Crafts such as basket weaving , beadwork, embroidery, folk jewelry making, weaving and ornamental trimming.

September Highlights

The highlight of the month is the 15th Debrecen Folk Crafts Festival on September 12-13, at Dósa nádor Square, where craftsmen will present their works and visitors can try out various techniques themselves.

On the open day on September 20, the House of Folk Crafts will open its doors, with the motto “I am ahead of my successor”, which draws attention to the importance of passing on knowledge.

The closing event of the month is the Folk Arts Open University on September 21, the first lecture of which will be given by ethnographer Imre Harangozó. The members of the association will also participate in the Folk Arts Fair on September 6 in Kisgyőr, further strengthening cross-border relations.

Further information about the association’s programs is available on the event’s website and on the association’s Facebook page.
