Sámsoni Road Expansion Update
After the four-lane section of Main Road 471 highway between Debrecen and Hajdúsámson was converted to four lanes, the expansion of the inner city of Debrecen has also began. In the first phase, the section between kilometer sections 1 and 2+850 is converted to four lanes, which is between the Mátyás király Street junction and Simon István Street on Sámsoni Road (as called in the inner city, the “471”).
However, the development of the road has encountered an unexpected obstacle. The acquisition of a property at the Acsádi Road junction has been hindering the capacity expansion of Sámsoni Road for more than a year and a half.
The expropriation has already taken place; the ministry paid the expropriation amount for the area at the public utilities junction to be rebuilt 20 months ago but has not been able to take possession of the purchased property since then, as the owner considers the amount insufficient and has taken further legal action.
When contacted by Dehir.hu, the Ministry of Construction and Transport stated that the 2×2 lane section of the main road from the city sign will be put into traffic without waiting for the completion of the 700-meter section between Acsádi Road and Mátyás király Street.
As they write, the contractor will complete the construction work in the immediate vicinity of the eastern internal traffic corridor and the new junction of Main Road 471 by the beginning of September 2025. This opened up the possibility for the entire width of the section of Sámsoni Road (from Kapitány Street to the city limit) completed last year (including the 2×2-lane main road pavement and the service roads running alongside it) to be opened to traffic.
In order to ensure safe pedestrian traffic and the proper exit and entry into connecting streets on the constructed road section, traffic lights were installed at the intersections of Kapitány Street, Lovas Street, Kőrösi Csoma Sándor Street, Rendőrségi Bejáró, and Simon István Street.
In the coming days, the contractor will be working on painting the pavement signs, placing traffic signs, and installing the traffic light system in order to introduce the new traffic rules, and in parallel, the necessary official permits have been obtained.
Once the necessary permits are available, the new traffic order can come into effect, which is expected to last until October 15, 2025.
After that, the contractor will carry out minor construction work on this section as well, but on the section from Kapitány Street to the city limits, those traveling on it will no longer have to expect significant restrictions.
