Road construction on Dézsa and Hordó streets in Lencztelep has been completed

The details of the investment were reported on the spot at a press conference held on September 15, 2025, by László Papp, Mayor of Debrecen; László Pósán, Member of Parliament; and Szabolcs Komolay, Local Government Representative of the district.

Mayor László Papp emphasized that 2025 is also a year in Debrecen when road construction works are taking place in all parts of the city and the development of the transport infrastructure is underway. In the case of the construction of Hordó and Dézsa streets, one can not only be happy that this has happened after a long time but also that it is a real collaboration between the population and the city. The streets were previously privately owned, so the investment naturally had to be agreed upon with the neighborhood and those living on the streets. The mayor is confident that the road construction will increase the value of the properties here. As he said, “This year the city spent a total of HUF 650 million on road renovation and construction. The first phase of Platán Street, Kádár dűlő, Zöld Street, the second phase of Izsó Street, and the first phase of Tőr Street were completed. The gross cost of the road construction of Hordó and Dézsa Streets—with a closed rainwater drainage system, sidewalks, and public lighting—cost HUF 292 million.” László Papp also mentioned that in addition to smaller road developments, larger ones are also taking place in Debrecen: currently, three major junctions are affected by renovation, reconstruction, and capacity-increasing investments. He expressed hope that motorists will be able to use the Szoboszlói Road and Külsővásártér intersection for the most part this year, although the works in this area should be completed by spring next year. A large-scale capacity-increasing investment is also underway at the intersection of Vámospércsi Road, Hétvezér Street, and Budai Nagy Antal Street, as well as the reconstruction of the intersection of Csigekert Street, Szabó Lőrinc Street, and Füredi Road. After the completion of these investments, the reconstruction of the intersection of Árpád Square, Ótemető Street, and Rakovszky Street can begin, which will also be a very important investment. The connection of Domokos Márton Street and Route 354—the northern bypass—will be a great help for those living around Böszörményi Street and Vezér Street. László Papp stated that the growing traffic in the city can only be managed by increasing road capacity as much as possible. However, there are limits to this. That’s why opening alternative transport corridors is a key element of the city’s traffic development strategy. One such alternative transport corridor is the Domokos Márton Road, and this will be the internal transport corridor in the eastern part of the city, for which the conclusion of a support contract is currently being prepared for the section from Main Road 471 to 48.

According to plans, the construction of this road could start next year, which will greatly ease the traffic congestion in the eastern part of the city.

According to László Pósán, Member of Parliament, if there is any clear evidence of the pace at which Debrecen is developing, then this area—where new streets are being opened and where new houses are being built—clearly indicates this development. At the same time, it also shows that in a city there is always work to be done as a result of development.

It is necessary for the citizens of the city to be partners in this work. László Pósán thanked local government representative Szabolcs Komolay for taking on the coordination task with the care of a good farmer, which was necessary to turn a privately owned piece of land into a publicly owned asphalt road with its entire infrastructure. The MP thanked Mayor László Papp and the city leadership for their positive and helpful attitude, because without them none of this would have been possible. He also encouraged everyone in other parts of the city to try to reconcile their common intentions in order to overcome the obstacles to road construction in a meaningful way, working together for the development of the city.

According to Szabolcs Komolay, this part of the city is developing very dynamically. In the past four years alone, six streets have been built here: Hordó, Dézsa, and Kádár Streets, as well as Sajtár, Kapás, and Szőlőprés Streets. The representative said that citizens living here care about their environment and articulate their needs. These development needs must be listened to by the representatives and city leaders, and the city must implement them. This was also the case with Hordó and Dézsa Streets. In the case of this development, the 21st-century needs of the citizens were fully taken into account: the roads are wide enough, the pavements are wide enough to accommodate strollers, the public lighting is state-of-the-art, and a sewage and rainwater drainage system has also been installed. And the citizens added their own to all this: they built the entrance gates. Szabolcs Komolay emphasized that the environment in Lencztelep is also beautiful and livable, and the city will continue its developments in this spirit in the future. The representative also added that one of the new transport corridors mentioned by Mayor László Papp will also affect Lencztelep, making transport easier in this part of the city.
