Judit Szendrei’s stamp artworks will soon be on display in Debrecen
Debrecen-based artist Judit Szendrei will soon showcase her unique stamp artworks in a new exhibition at the DAB headquarters on Thomas Mann Street, marking the tenth anniversary of her first stamp creation.
Szendrei’s art has reached audiences across the globe. Last year, she held a solo exhibition in Beijing, organized by the Liszt Institute at the Horizon Art Space in the city’s famed 798 Art Zone. Her works have also been exhibited in London, the Netherlands, and even presented to Pope Francis at the Vatican.
Her distinctive style has captured international attention. Bianca Kann, author of the Japanese Aatonau Art Blog, described Szendrei’s work as a fusion of pop art, dadaism, and contemporary assemblage, yet unmistakably original. “Through meticulous craftsmanship and conceptual depth,” Kann writes, “Szendrei transforms ordinary, overlooked objects into powerful storytelling tools, proving that even the smallest fragments of history can inspire something entirely new.”
The upcoming exhibition, titled “Is it possible to paint with stamps?”, opens on October 1 at 4:30 p.m.. The event will be inaugurated by Gyöngyi Porkoláb, with a welcome speech by Professor István Rácz, president of the MTA DAB Club, and a performance by the Körömvirág ensemble.
At the exhibition interested parties can get to know her works and as she says, “This is a summary, a selection, visitors will get a kind of cross-section of the kind of work I have.”
Adding to the program is a screening of József Varga’s film from the Józsai Postcards series, presented in a dedicated viewing room.
In Szendrei’s artistic journey her daughter plays a significant role, and she revealed that she is preparing a surprise for this occasion. Among the highlights will be a never-before-seen historical mandala, featuring motifs from the Hungarian Conquest, 1848, and 1956.
Under her name, guests will notice the label MoCoMo Art—an acronym she coined to describe her technique: mosaic, collage, montage.
The exhibition will be open Monday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Fridays until 2:00 p.m., through October 20. With prior registration, it can be viewed daily until 7:00 p.m. To book a visit, please call (+36) 52 412-177.
