University of Debrecen hosted the 27th Foreign Exchange Fair
Study trips abroad, scholarships, internships, and summer student work opportunities: these were the topics that interested parties could learn about at the Foreign Exchange Fair organized by the University of Debrecen. In the previous academic year, around 1,000 students and university lecturers traveled abroad, most of them through the Pannónia Scholarship Program.
16 exhibitors presented their programs to interested parties at the Foreign Exchange Fair. The event aims to provide university students and lecturers with information about foreign scholarship programs, internships, and further education opportunities.
Currently, the Pannónia Scholarship Program has the largest number of students and is also one of the most flexible. Over the past year, the number of students in the program has doubled, with approximately 850 traveling abroad. In addition, students can also apply for smaller scholarships, and university lecturers can participate in foreign conferences and further training, even outside of Europe.
“70-80 percent of the trips took place mainly in Europe, but there was significant interest in the Far East or even the United States. Twenty of our students were in the United States primarily for professional training, or our instructors participated in conferences, but our students also travelled to South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan,” highlighted Orsolya Jánosy, head of the International Office of the University of Debrecen.
Students have the opportunity to spend their internships abroad, or they can even apply for summer student work.
Camp Leaders is an American cultural exchange program through which applicants can work in summer camps or multi-star hotels during the summer, and after the work, the journey in the United States can begin.
“The most important thing in this matter is the adventure. Participants have to be prepared for the fact that this will be an intensive summer for the applicant, with a lot of work. This is the saddest part, but you can meet a lot of new people, with a lot of experience, adventure, travel, and discovery,” pointed out Márk Mangold, program coordinator of Camp Leaders Hungary.
“The internationality of the University of Debrecen is undeniable not only because of the number of foreign students but also because of the institution’s international relations. It is of paramount importance that students gain experience abroad.
First of all, it is not only the studies they pursue abroad, not only the credits they earn at foreign universities, but also the milieu they find themselves in, that they get out of their comfort zone at home, gain foreign experience, expand their communication skills, and expand their language skills,” said Elek Bartha, the Vice-Rector for Education.
The Foreign Exchange Fair was organized for the twenty-seventh time at the University of Debrecen.
