Debrecen teachers are gaining insights into the operations of the business services sector

This year, the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen (UD) and the Debrecen Business Service Centers (DBSC) Roundtable are organizing their joint further training for the 11th time. This time, ten more teachers from the institutions of the Debrecen School District will be able to acquire practical business knowledge through theoretical sessions and online courses, the university announced.

The accredited further training, “Business Services in Practice,” was launched by UD and the DBSC Roundtable more than ten years ago with the aim of providing teachers—including heads of institutions, deputies, and work community leaders—with insight into the everyday life of the business sector and gaining practical knowledge that they can later use in their work to successfully guide their students in their careers.

So far more than 140 teachers have successfully completed courses that can be incorporated into the requirements of the teacher career model.

“According to the renewed further training system, the professional requirement is to complete 120 credits every five years, and participants in the current course can complete 30 credits of this. All this serves to update teachers’ knowledge, and thanks to the various forms of training, it is possible for the teaching staff of each institution to renew their knowledge,” emphasized Gyöngyi Szilágyi-Asztalos, the acting director general of education of UD, at the opening of the course on October 1.

This is the fourth event organised jointly by the University of Debrecen and the DBSC Roundtable for teachers in the Debrecen school district.

“This is one of the success stories of our in-service teacher training, as the openness we experienced on the part of the Debrecen School District was a huge help in both organization and implementation, thus facilitating the development of a well-functioning system that ties the cooperation between the university and public education even closer,” highlighted Péter Csatár, Deputy Dean for Strategy and Economics of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen.

The teachers participating in the program can learn about the needs and expectations of the business sector during 15 hours of theoretical training with the assistance of experts and managers of the DBSC Roundtable and then gain practical knowledge in the framework of 15 e-learning sessions.

“All participants of the course are committed to lifelong learning; they are teachers who, by learning about the expectations of the actors of economic life, can gain their own experiences, which they can later utilize in their work,” said Istvánné András Vántus, Deputy Director of the Debrecen School District.

The transfer of practical knowledge is provided by employees of the six companies cooperating within the framework of DBSC: 4iG Nyrt., British Telecommunications, DIEHL Aviation Hungary Kft., Flowserve Hungary Services Kft., NI Hungary Kft., and Transcosmos Kft. “Although these companies are competitors in business life, they joined forces in 2018 for the success of further training, as the common goal is that young people who graduate in Debrecen can also find employment here. Teachers play a key role in this, who, in addition to transferring knowledge, use their own experiences to shape the way young people think, thereby helping them in their career orientation, “ pointed out Éva Kissné Nyéki, project manager of the DBSC Roundtable.

In addition to theoretical and practical sessions, the training also creates an opportunity to gain personal experience during the mentoring period during visits to companies.

The program ends with a final presentation.
