The public procurement procedure for the design and construction tasks of the capacity restoration of the wastewater treatment plant was successful
On June 27, 2025, the Municipality of Debrecen launched an open public procurement procedure with a value reaching the EU threshold for the design and construction tasks of the capacity restoration of the Debrecen wastewater treatment plant.
The aim of the development is to restore the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant, which became necessary due to the increased demand from industrial and residential sectors in Debrecen, and the implementation of a new, cost-effective, automated wastewater and sludge treatment technology that ensures the professional and modern treatment of separately collected industrial wastewater generated in industrial parks. The facility for further treating treated wastewater allows the quality of the greywater produced from treated wastewater to ensure its widest possible use, while keeping treatment costs low.
The contract will implement the following 3 project elements in 5 phases:
1. Design and construction of an industrial wastewater treatment plant structure
2. Design and construction of a development element for further purification of treated wastewater
3. Design and construction of the capacity restoration of an existing municipal wastewater treatment plant
3 bidders submitted bids within the framework of the procedure:

· STRABAG Vízépítő Korlátolt Felelősségű Társaság (STRABAG Water Construction Limited Liability Company)
The winner of the public procurement procedure is Mészáros és Mészáros Ipari, Komercedelmi és Szolgáltató Zártkörűen Működő Részvénytársaság with the most favorable net bid price of HUF 23,200,327,400.
