Debrecen-made electric BMW is now surpassing its petrol-powered version in sales in Germany

In Spain, Real Madrid players—and in Italy, AC Milan players—are promoting the BMW iX3.

More than 3,000 orders have been received for the iX3 model in Germany alone, the head of BMW Germany revealed at an industry summit organized by the Institute for Automotive Economics (IfA). Christian Ach added that this number exceeds the order volume achieved for the conventionally powered X3 model in the same period. The first deliveries are expected in Europe in the spring and in America in the summer.

As is known, the BMW Group’s Debrecen plant was officially handed over at the end of September, where series production of the first model of the Neue Klasse, the recently introduced purely electric iX3, began.

In the meantime, BMW is presenting the iX3 in more and more countries, with premieres already held in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain. In the latter two countries, the car was promoted with the Real Madrid and AC Milan football teams, as BMW cooperates with football clubs.

The iX3 impressed the industry. Gábor Várkonyi, one of the country’s best-known and most respected automotive experts, told Médiacentrum Debrecen that this car is currently, according to our current knowledge, the most advanced electric car in series production worldwide. He called what BMW is accomplishing in Debrecen a superhuman achievement, because in addition to starting a new factory, they have also produced the first model of a new model family, which also brought a lot of new features. András Horváth, an expert who has followed electric cars from the beginning, said that with the iX3, BMW has redesigned the car as a system.

The purely electric BMW iX3 has a range of 800 kilometers and can absorb enough energy for up to 350 kilometers with a 10-minute charge. The BMW Panoramic iDrive display and vehicle control technology present all relevant driving information within the driver’s optimal field of vision. The “Heart of Joy” central computer and the BMW Dynamic Performance Control software pair realize a new level of driving dynamics in plug-in powertrain technologies.

According to BMW executives, the Neue Klasse will not only be a new chapter in the company’s history but also a new book. According to some journalists, the future of the German automotive industry is at stake at the BMW Plant in Debrecen.

The BMW Group Factory Debrecen is now recruiting new employees to start the second shift: currently, applicants are invited for 47 positions.

According to the monthly report of the HR Portal and the company information service provider Opten, the plant already employs more than three thousand people.

Automotive industry summit in Debrecen

On November 5, the German-Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the city of Debrecen will organize this year’s German-Hungarian Business Forum at the Kölcsey Center.

The highlight of the event is the podium discussion, which will be attended by Hans-Peter Kemser, President and CEO of BMW Group Plant Debrecen; Jens Bühler, Director of Mercedes-Benz Kecskemét Plant; and Michael Breme, CEO of Audi Hungária Zrt.

The roundtable discussion organized with the managers of the three German premium brands, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz plants in Győr, Debrecen, and Kecskemét, will be moderated by one of the country’s most well-known automotive market experts, Gábor Várkonyi.
