The iX4 is the second BMW model to be manufactured in Debrecen
BMWBLOG has managed to get its first look at the 2027 BMW iX4, confirming its plans to launch a fully electric “Sports Activity Coupé” (SAC) to replace the discontinued X4 model (which is now being replaced by the larger X2), as the local media reported.
As reported earlier, although the car is completely camouflaged, its sporty, dynamic silhouette is still clearly visible, and the new model appears sleeker and more athletic than the current X4. The lower roofline reduces the size of the glass surfaces. The rear triangular window has been retained, but is much smaller than on the traditional iX3. The rear headroom and luggage space have also been reduced due to the coupe shape, which is a natural feature of such SUVs. An interesting detail is the horizontal cutout in the boot lid spoiler, which is probably intended for the third brake light. This is usually located at the top of the rear windshield, but it seems that BMW’s designers are now trying out a new solution. The car is also made special by its muscular fenders and a new two-tone wheel design. The recessed door handles come from the new iX3. There is no exhaust under the rear bumper, which also shows that the model will be purely electric. At the front, the vertical kidney grille is camouflaged, while the active air intakes in the lower bumper remain open.
As previously reported, these images show early prototypes, so it is likely that the iX4 will be unveiled in the summer of 2026, with BMW’s new factory in Debrecen starting production in November 2026.
More than 3,000 orders for the iX3 have been received in Germany alone, the head of BMW Germany revealed at an industry summit organized by the Institute for Automotive Economics (IfA). Christian Ach added that this number exceeds the order volume achieved for the conventionally powered X3 model in the same period. The first deliveries are expected in Europe in the spring andin America in the summer.
BMW will continuously bring out new models; according to the statement, the technologies of the Neue Klasse will be reflected in a total of forty new models and model updates by 2027.
As is known, the BMW Group Plant Debrecen was officially handed over at the end of September, where the series production of the first model of the Neue Klasse, the recently introduced purely electric iX3, began.
