Another important road section has been completed in Debrecen—Phase II of Mandolás Street has been handed over
Starting today, drivers can use the entire length of the new Majorsági Road, as well as the new roundabout at the junction with Gázvezeték Street.
This development, which is over 700 meters long and costs HUF 1.7 billion, is one of the most important investments in the transport of the southern part of the city. The investment will make the daily lives of locals easier and is an important element of the transport development program that strengthens the livability and competitiveness of Debrecen.
During the investment, the new section of Mandolás Street was equipped with a modern road surface, proper drainage, and public lighting. The main strategic goal of the development is to distribute traffic and create alternative transport corridors. The new roundabout will allow for smooth movement without traffic lights and will significantly reduce the load on Mikepércsi Road and the Mikepércsi–Gázvezeték Street junction.
Mayor László Papp highlighted, “With the completion, we have reached the handover of one of the most important transport developments in the southern part of the city, which is part of the systematic strategic response to the city’s dynamic traffic growth.” He added that the traffic light-free roundabout, which was built as part of the investment, can significantly reduce traffic on the surrounding busy roads, thus serving as an alternative route. This will bring a new, higher standard of transport to the area, improving the comfort of local residents and serving future development areas.
Deputy Mayor Diána Széles emphasized, “The development serves to make transport more comfortable and safer for the people of Debrecen. At the same time, the investment also makes everyday life easier for local residents, including green development, tree planting, and the modernization of public lighting. She pointed out that the HUF 1.7 billion investment was made possible with government support, which is indicative of the exemplary cooperation between the government and the local government. This will enable Debrecen to meet the development needs associated with becoming a large city, including transportation and welfare improvements.
Zoltán Piros, the local government representative of the district, pointed out that the through traffic in Tégláskert will be greatly reduced, which will be a relief for residents of Kanális and Halász Street, for example. The representative added that in the recent period, developments have been implemented in the areas of car, pedestrian, and public transport to increase comfort.
The recently completed project is part of a systematic transport development strategy announced by the city administration. Majorsági Road is vital for the southern part of the city. The investment directly serves the municipal development area located on the north side of the airport, where residential, office, hotel, and commercial developments are expected in the coming years.
