Hungarian Post is drawing attention to the upcoming Christmas parcel peak

The company highlighted that packages sent by individuals and web stores in Hungary by December 19 will arrive at their recipients by Christmas.

Anyone who wants to buy from a Far Eastern web store should order their Christmas gift by November 30, and orders for domestic web stores should be placed by December 12, the Hungarian Post (Magyar Posta) drew attention to in a statement on Wednesday.

The company emphasized that packages sent by individuals and web stores in Hungary by December 19 will arrive at their recipients by Christmas.

The post office recalled in its statement that according to PwC research, Hungarian online retail handled 114 million domestic and international orders last year, which is a 15 percent increase in one year.

In recent years, the proportion of consignments arriving from the Far East has increased significantly, and today they account for more than 20 percent of Magyar Posta’s contracted parcel traffic.

A quarter of the company’s turnover is concentrated in the last six weeks of the year, with the busiest days occurring in the first week of December.

A study by PwC also shows that almost 40 percent of online shoppers now prefer to collect their parcels from a parcel machine due to its flexibility and convenience. The Hungarian Post indicated that its parcel machine network provides a 24-hour collection option, and delivery staff visits the machines twice on working days. The company currently has 700 MPL parcel machines and more than 3,000 post offices at its disposal.

The post office emphasized in its statement that security should not be forgotten during the holiday season when ordering online. It is always worth ordering from a reliable online store, and it is less risky if customers choose cash on delivery instead of paying in advance when ordering from an unknown webshop.
