Józsa running track was handed over

Debrecen has been enriched with a new sporting opportunity: the Józsa running track was handed over, which was implemented with the support of the Active Hungary program, with a total investment of HUF 156 million.

The track serves the common goal of the government and the local government: expanding the opportunities for exercise, a healthy lifestyle, and community sports.

The new 1,002‑meter‑long running track with a Rekortan surface in Józsa, Klastrompart sor, was completed in the natural environment along the Tócó Stream. The project was implemented with a government grant of HUF 55 million and a local government contribution of HUF 101 million.

Mayor László Papp highlighted that the residents of Debrecen are eager to take immediate advantage of the mass sports facilities being developed in the city. This is the fourth running track in Debrecen, and it clearly shows that sports developments are one of the priority directions of our city. “Building on the success of the “Move, Debrecen!” initiative, the city government is creating opportunities that promote a healthy lifestyle and community sports for all ages,” the mayor stressed.

Máriusz Révész, the State Secretary responsible for Active Hungary, said that the government can only cooperate effectively with settlements where there is a real commitment to exercise and a healthy life. Debrecen is at the forefront of this, and the city government is consciously building opportunities for an active life. “The goal is for Hungary to have more and more cities where people can live healthier and longer—and Debrecen is on this path,” he emphasized.

Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa added that the new facility strengthens Debrecen’s green, family-friendly, and livable cityscape. He also highlighted that in recent years, more than three kilometers of running tracks and 22 fitness parks have been created in the city, and numerous developments supporting other forms of exercise have also been implemented, including the Extreme Sports Park. “These investments will build a livable city that not only strengthens infrastructure but also health care and community life,” he added.

Deputy Mayor Ákos Balázs said that “It’s good to live in Józsa, and the data shows this—this part of the city is also growing dynamically in terms of population.” The deputy mayor pointed out that Józsa is a place of development and community life. In this part of the city, the love of nature and sports can be enjoyed at the same time, as, in addition to the new, modern running track, numerous developments have been carried out. The environment along the Tócó Stream has been renewed, and two bridges have been built to run across, providing an additional magical atmosphere for those who exercise here.

The handover of the running track “Tócókör” (Tócó Circle) in Józsa is another milestone in the effort to make the opportunity for regular exercise available in every part of Debrecen.
