A new residential building is being developed in the heart of Debrecen

The new investment in the heart of Debrecen benefits both the built heritage and the residents.

In one of the most valuable parts of Debrecen, in the heart of the historical city center, at 14 Bethlen Street and 2 Jókai Street, a condominium called SIGNUM Living is being built. The complex will be a harmonious ensemble of two building wings in the heart of the city center – the Bethlen and Jókai buildings – connected by a special inner courtyard with a green garden, the design office informed dehir.hu.

The courtyard not only forms a visual transition between the past and the present, but it also serves as a real community living space, where a café and shops provide a meeting point for residents and city dwellers in a carefully landscaped, calm environment.

The Bethlen Street wing consists of two historical buildings, which are important pieces of Debrecen’s architectural heritage.

The residential building at 14 Bethlen Street was built in the late 1800s, while the house at 16 Bethlen Street acquired its current form between 1900 and 1911, in a closed row. The eclectic “cívis” houses are preserved not only in their facades but also in their original basements and structural elements, thus preserving the values of the past in a worthy manner.

The Bethlen wing, which is under local protection, will house 13 uniquely designed apartments, each of which combines the atmosphere of history and the comfort of modern life. 46 modern apartments will be built in the Jókai wing. The glass roof structure placed above the Bethlen wing is a unique architectural solution that creates a subtle contrast between the historical walls and the contemporary design; thus, the entire building becomes a work of art embodying the dialogue between the past and the present, the designer shared with dehir.hu.

The Jókai wing, on the other hand, represents the clean lines of modern architecture, complementing the elegance of the Bethlen wing with contemporary aesthetics. The meeting of the two building parts creates a balance between tradition and innovation, while fitting into the historical urban fabric of Debrecen as an organic whole.

SIGNUM Living is a mixed-use building consisting of 59 apartments, 6 shops/offices, 1 catering unit, 63 parking spaces, and 18 storage units, which will be built in Debrecen, at 14 Bethlen Street, in the immediate vicinity of the Great Church.

Parking spaces and storage rooms will be created on the basement and ground floors of the building. The 65 bicycles belonging to the building’s purpose units will be stored in the basement and ground floor garages, as well as in the bicycle storage area in the courtyard. 13 apartments will be built in the Bethlen wing, while 46 apartments will be built in the Jókai section.

The ground floor will house 6 shops, offices, or service units with different functions, as well as a restaurant. A spacious staircase, comfortable stairs, and two modern elevators (one for 13 people and one for 8 people) in the common areas ensure comfortable transportation.

The services located in the courtyard—the café-bakery, shops, and offices—all contribute to making SIGNUM Living not just a place to live but an elegant and inspiring scene of urban life, explains the investor.

The apartment building, scheduled for completion in December 2027, is designed by BORD Építész Stúdió, built by HUNÉP Zrt., with interiors crafted by designer István Prokob.
