BMW significantly increased new car sales in the EU compared to the same period last year
New car sales in the European Union increased by 5.8 percent to 916,609 in October compared to the same month of the previous year, according to a report posted on the website of the European car manufacturers’ professional association, ACEA, on Tuesday.
The number of new cars registered in Spain increased by 15.9 percent, in Germany by 7.8 percent, and in France by 2.9 percent, while in Italy the number of new cars registered decreased by 0.5 percent.
Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) increased by 38.6 percent to 173,173 in the European Union in October.
Volkswagen Group’s sales in the EU increased by 7.9 percent, Stellantis’s by 6.6 percent, and Renault Group’s by 10 percent last month. Sales of German luxury carmaker BMW AG in Debrecen saw sales rise by 8.7 percent, while its main competitor, Mercedes-Benz, grew by 2 percent.
Japan’s Toyota Group’s vehicle sales fell by 10.8 percent, while South Korea’s Hyundai Group’s rose by 0.1 percent, while Ford Motor Company’s sales fell by 8.8 percent in October compared to the previous month.
US electric carmaker Tesla sold 5,647 vehicles in the European Union last month, down 48 percent from 10,867 in October. Meanwhile, China’s BYD Co.’s sales jumped by 195 percent, from 4,525 to 13,350.
In the first 10 months of this year, car sales in the EU rose by 1.4 percent to 8,974,026. From the beginning of the year to the end of October, 1,473,447 new BEV cars were registered, an increase of 25.7 percent. They accounted for 16.4 percent of the EU market share, up from 13.2 percent a year earlier. The share of petrol-powered cars shrank to 27.4 percent from 34 percent a year earlier, while that of diesel-powered cars fell from 12.3 percent to 9.2 percent.
According to data on the ACEA website, 10,803 new cars were registered in Hungary in October, 7.7 percent more than the 10,034 a year earlier. Sales of diesel cars fell by 17.2 percent to 1,077, while those of petrol cars fell by 11.7 percent to 2,662. BEV sales rose by 48.3 percent to 943, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) cars that can be charged from the grid jumped by 62.8 percent to 666, while hybrid electric (HEV) cars increased by 17.2 percent to 5,415 in October year-on-year.
In the first ten months of this year, 106,755 new cars were registered in Hungary, 7.7 percent more than a year earlier. Diesel car sales increased by 1.2 percent to 12,304, while gasoline car sales fell by 14.4 percent to 25,610. BEV sales rose 25.2 percent to 8,968, PHEV sales rose 12.8 percent to 5,308, and PHEV sales rose 20.2 percent to 53,995.
