A new golf course will open soon in Debrecen
National developments and international openings were also discussed at the annual general meeting of the Hungarian Golf Association, at which a new main sponsor was announced. They have already tried to open a golf course in Debrecen and Vámospércs, but these are no longer operational.
The Debrecen Golf Garden Club, the first completed stage of the center program, will open next March, the association announced in a statement on Wednesday. The investment includes a modern driving range, a complex practice area, and three par-3 sections, and will also bring a quality to Eastern Hungary that was previously missing from domestic golf life.
The Hungarian association has contacted the Central and Eastern European golf associations, and the establishment of a new, regional-level professional cooperation has begun. It was announced at the general meeting that in the first quarter of 2026, Hungary will host the first official regional meeting, the aim of which is to coordinate competition calendars, launch joint training programs, and develop youth development models that provide a unified, transparent development path for the countries of the region.
The goal is for Hungary to be not only a participant but also a decisive organizer and driver of professional cooperation in Central and Eastern European golf life.
It was announced that three golf courses had been launched at the Széchenyi István University in Győr, which were oversubscribed and filled up within three days.
For the first time in the history of Hungarian golf, a main sponsorship-level cooperation has been established with a Hungarian-owned family company with a high brand value, such as Master Good Kft., owned by the Bárány family from Debrecen.
The annual support of HUF 100 million for a minimum of four years not only means financial security but also a strategic partnership, which clearly reflects the trust in the long-term potential of the sport, says the association’s newsletter.
This will not be the first such facility in Debrecen and its vicinity. The longest (350 m) golf practice course in Eastern Hungary, with 11 teeing grounds, opened 12 years ago on the corner of Sámsoni Road and Salakos Street. As it was written on the operator’s website at the time, the primary consideration in the design of the course was the exclusive environment, quality service, and increasing the level of golfing opportunities in the area. Dehir.hu tried to reach the company by phone and by mail, but to no avail, and their website hasn’t been updated for some time.
In 2008 a golf course that met international standards and was suitable for hosting world championships was also opened in Vámospércs, a town with a population of five thousand, 25 kilometers from Debrecen. At the time, Vámospércs was the only 18-hole golf course in Eastern Hungary.
