A week-long innovation competition was held at the Debrecen technical school

The Financial Innovation Project Week ended successfully at the DSZC Bethlen Gábor Technical School of Economics. Out of 120 ideas, the five best reached the finals, during which eight teams developed a feasible business plan. The joint, practice-oriented competition of the DSZC, the university’s Faculty of Economics, and OTP Bank helps develop students’ economic competence at the institution.

A large orchestra concert is unthinkable without sheet music. The winning project helps with this, in which the winning team developed a successful business model by looking for a market niche. “We developed a project for a company dealing with online sheet music services. The difficulty was that among the competitors there are either very large players or very small ones, and we had to somehow find a way to position ourselves in between,” explained Boglárka Sallai.

In addition to the winner, four other teams competed during the project week at the DSZC Bethlen Gábor Technical School of Economics. In the study competition, the students prepared business plans for real situations. “We need not only mechanical and electrical specialists but also economic and financial specialists, because this economy has to be operated,” said Sándor Szilágyi, Director General of the DSZC.

At the announcement of the results, Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa stated that this project week is characterized by exemplary cooperation, which is in line with the city’s efforts to offer a vision for the future to young people in Debrecen. “11 years ago, when a new city government was established, we set the goal of creating as many jobs as possible in Debrecen, because we already had a lot of talent in the city at that time, but many of them left for other parts of the country,” highlighted Lajos Barcsa.

The Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen also participated in the implementation of the project week, in which talent management receives special attention. “Naturally, this is a very important element and aspect of the teaching and research recruitment base, and it can also serve as a very important selection criterion for companies in Debrecen,” explained Veronika Fenyves, the dean of the faculty.

The project week is co-organized by OTP Bank and its foundation, which educates 70,000 students and promotes the development of future-oriented financial thinking among young people. “At the heart of our social responsibility is the enhancement of the financial awareness of the growing generation and its related education, and the András Fáy Foundation is the custodian of this within the group,” said József Barkó, regional manager.

The winning team received the bank’s special prize, but all forty participating students won. The practical knowledge they gained in the competition can be used in further education and when starting their careers.
