Hundreds of long-serving blood donors were honored in Debrecen
On the occasion of Hungarian Blood Donors’ Day, the Debrecen Regional Organization of the Hungarian Red Cross organized a ceremony in the Csapókert Community House on November 28, 2025.
There were also donors who received recognition for more than 100 blood donations. The event praised the voluntariness and selflessness of blood donation—since blood donors help unknown people anonymously without expecting anything in return. Almost 300 jubilant blood donors were recognized, including one—István Zsolt Zoványi—who had already donated blood 160 times.
At the ceremony, Deputy Mayor Diána Széles emphasized that blood donors play an indispensable role in patient care.
“In the event of an accident or an illness, a large amount of blood is needed. Therefore, it is very important that the blood supply is continuous, and one blood donation can save the lives of three people. Therefore, we consider it very important that we celebrate those who anonymously but voluntarily undertake such activities,” stated Diána Széles.
Local government representative Edina Szilágyi also greeted the blood donors at the event.
