A new railway wagon plant is planned to be built in Debrecen
The Romanian company Grampet–GFR and the Chinese CRRC Shandong have signed a partnership agreement.
According to maszol.ro, citing profit.ro, Grampet already operates a plant in Debrecen that focuses exclusively on the repair and modernization of railway vehicles.
Several factors played a role in choosing Hungary as the site for the new factory: the Romanian partner’s stable market presence, moderate operating costs, Hungary’s geographical and logistical advantages, and the authorities’ openness to heavy‑industry investments.
Market sources report that the Debrecen plant will manufacture open freight wagons, flat wagons, and wagons suitable for container transport. Production is planned to start next year.
CRRC Shandong is part of the globally significant CRRC Group. Grampet is the largest privately owned freight and logistics company in Central and Southeastern Europe, with operations in nine countries outside Romania and an annual transport volume of more than 15 million tons of goods.
