A new series of free programmes titled “Belváros – Szeretem!” starts in Debrecen
A vibrant cultural life is taking place at the heart of Debrecen from June 19 to July 26.
One of the busiest points in the city centre, the corner of Rózsa Street and Piac Street, will be the location for the free program series called “Belváros – Szeretem!” (“Downtown – I Love It”) The new initiative offers a taste of the city’s musical, dance, and community values for all ages for five weeks.
The city centre comes alive in the summer, as evidenced by all those who visited the corner of Piac Street and Rózsa Street on Tuesday afternoon. The wind instrument players of Zenede and the students of the Valcer Dance Studio gave a taste of their production at the information session for the new summer programme series called “Belváros – Szeretem!” The five-week event series is being implemented in cooperation with Cívisház, the Főnix Event Organiser, and the city to create a new community experience space in the heart of the city.
“We have always dreamed of Debrecen being a city where the city centre comes alive in the evening and at night, and we don’t just come here to take care of our daily chores but also to live a community life and spend our free time. To be together, with friends and families,” Deputy Mayor István Puskás said.
The event series will start on June 19, offering cultural programmes in the city centre twice a week, on Thursdays and Saturdays. The programme series is not intended to be a mass event; they want to create a family atmosphere and strengthen small communities.
Edit Erdei, CEO of Cívis Ház Zrt., highlighted the role and flexibility of the shops in the area at the information session, which is also preparing for the five weeks with promotions. “It is fundamental to the operation of Cívis Ház that it cooperates with its tenants, and I would like to thank them again for their role in hosting and offering discounts to both performers and those walking by. Another thing that is important for the city centre, perhaps in connection with Covid, is that we have noticed how important it has become in hospitality to be on the terrace, a basic instinct and need for all of us,” Edit Erdei said.
As a result of this exemplary collaboration, at least 40 performers will take turns in the city centre, and all ages will be able to find something to their liking in their cultural offerings, from familiar bands to dancers evoking a carnival atmosphere.
“The thinking of the Főnix Event Organiser and the compilation of the programme are largely determined by the partners, the institutions, groups, and civil organisations with whom we can connect. For this, we are extremely grateful because, in this unity and this support for the causes, there is the kind of strength that can be shown even here 40 times,” the managing director of the Főnix Event Organiser Zita Dobos emphasised.
The “Downtown – I Love It!” programme series awaits visitors to the city centre with high-quality programmes until July 26.
