“As part of the Green Codex, we will continue with urban greening. We are planting another 10,000 trees!” Ákos Balázs announced on his Facebook page. The Deputy Mayor of Debrecen, who is also responsible for environmental affairs, also shared that a volunteer programme titled “Adopt a Tree!” will also be launched for the new large-scale afforestation.

As part of this, adopters are being sought for the newly planted saplings.

Any Debrecen resident who would like to plant a tree in a public area near their place of residence can apply for the adoption programme and undertakes to carefully care for, water and monitor the condition of the planted tree during the 3-year adoption period. Applications from groups of friends and workplace communities are also welcome!

Following professional preparation after registration, the plants are planted on a scheduled basis in the spring and autumn.

The local government will provide and deliver the seedlings to the site. The planting will be carried out jointly, with Future of Debrecen providing expert assistance.

The tree species to be planted jointly will be selected by our experts based on the Ornamental Tree Catalogue, taking into account the final size of the tree, its characteristics and the other plants in the street.

You can read more about the programme  on the website of Future of Debrecen, where you can also apply.
