Last year was a record year for the Debrecen strand, with over 217,000 visitors, mainly due to the excellent beach weather practically all summer. This is what the operator Aquaticum Debrecen Ltd., especially the managing director, Lajos Fazekas, is hoping for this year.

“So far, the weather has not been kind to the strands that usually open on 1 May, but we are confident that this will improve drastically in the coming days. Debrecen is not a classic spa town, so the number of visitors to the strand increases during school breaks and holidays, “ Lajos Fazekas said in the Debrecen Television’s  Evening Close-up programme.

The managing director of Aquaticum Debrecen Ltd.  pointed out in the programme that the work will begin immediately after the night frosts disappear. Outdoor pools are quite affected by the winter weather, so in addition to tiling, the professionals also have to work on grouting, but gardening activities also start around this time.

Last year, in the one or two weeks before the opening, about 50-60 people worked to ensure that guests who wanted to relax arrived in the best possible environment.

“With the introduction of the new water utility law, the burden in terms of water and sewer fees is so great that it makes profitable operation difficult. The weather is also a prominent factor in terms of income, as the difference between a cool and cloudy day or a hot sunny day can be tens of millions of forints,”  he pointed out.

Lajos Fazekas explained that they would like to see an increase in the number of foreigners visiting the strand, and that not only the people of Debrecen, but also those living in the region and beyond, should visit them.

“ Sometimes, because of a full house, guests have to wait until another bather comes out. This is rare, as we managed to free up a lot of green space during the reconstruction, so we are confident that we can meet everyone’s needs,” he added.
