Auchan launches a supplier programme to promote local products

Auchan Magyarország Kft. (Auchan Hungary Ltd.) and Magyar Termék Nonprofit Kft.(Hungarian Product Nonprofit Ltd.) have launched a supplier programme in Debrecen. The initiative aims to increase the range of local products on the store shelves and help domestic products reach the market. The programme is also supported by the National Chamber of Agriculture.

Peppers, tomatoes, and various seeds. You can find the products of many farmers in the Hajdú-Bihar region, but these small businesses often do not get the spotlight. The latest programme of Auchan Hungary Ltd. and Magyar Termék Nonprofit Ltd. wants to change this. Auchan currently has 46 thousand products on its shelves, a significant part of which is already domestic.

“86 percent of the nearly 23 thousand food references are grown in Hungary. So I still think that we are currently present on the market with a unique number of products,” Sales Director of Auchan Hungary Ltd. Attila Nagy emphasised.

The programme, which embraces local farmers, aims to bring as many domestic, and within that local, products to the shelves as possible. The selected products may even receive the certification trademarks of Magyar Termék Nonprofit Kft. Currently, 250 companies have about 6,000 trademarked products in Hungary.

“These companies generate an annual turnover of HUF 4,500 billion and employ 48,000 people. Our goal is to showcase these products, implement continuous consumer campaigns, and support the companies and these farmers,” CEO of Magyar Termék Nonprofit Kft pointed out.

This initiative, which is unique at the national level, would make the traditional flavours and products of Eastern Hungary even more accessible.

“They can appear, shelves, they can present their products, and this will give many family farms, farmers, or joint ventures the opportunity to win new markets, and consumers to get to know new products,” President of the National Chamber of Agriculture Zsolt Papp emphasised.

The supplier programme of Auchan Hungary Kft. was first launched in Debrecen. The company contacted almost 50 local farmers in the hope of cooperation.
