BMW to build renewable energy power plant in Debrecen
BMW is constructing a renewable energy power plant in Debrecen, primarily to meet its own energy needs. The project is expected to be completed by February.
BMW Manufacturing Hungary Kft. has received a consolidated permit—under certain conditions—from the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority to establish and operate a small-scale power plant, according to dehir.hu
The investment is scheduled to begin on August 18 and is planned to conclude by February 26, 2026. From that point on, the solar power plant—built by the company originally founded for vehicle manufacturing but also prepared for battery and dry cell production—will begin commercial operations.
Dehir.hu wrote that BMW may be planning additional similar investments, as suggested by the project’s name: Debrecen Carport 0260/1.
The facility is designed to supply energy exclusively for the car factory’s own consumption, not for feeding into the national electricity grid The plant’s total installed capacity will be 2.2725 megawatts, requiring 4,500 monocrystalline solar modules, 15 inverters, and 2 main transformers.
