British Metal Legends Judas Priest to Return to Hungary After Four Years

The British Judas Priest will return to Hungary after four years and perform on 1 September at Papp László Budapest Sports Arena as part of their Faithkeepers tour. Judas Priest’s most recent, 19th studio album, Invincible Shield, was released in 2024, followed by a sold-out world tour.

Last year, the band first played to huge crowds in South America, followed by Europe, and in the autumn they embarked on a joint US tour with Alice Cooper, according to a statement sent by the organiser Live Nation to MTI on Monday. Although Judas Priest bid farewell to audiences in 2012, they reunited at the end of 2013 and have remained active ever since.

The band was formed in Birmingham in 1969, has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, and has received the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. During the 2011–2012 farewell tour (which also included the Sziget Festival), four members of the classic line-up performed: Rob Halford (vocals), Glenn Tipton (guitar), Ian Hill (bass guitar) and Scott Travis (drums). K. K. Downing, who retired before the tour, was replaced by Richie Faulkner, who has remained a member of the band ever since.

The band is associated with major hits such as Victim of Changes, Diamonds and Rust, Turbo Lover, The Green Manalishi, Breaking the Law, Painkiller and Hell Bent for Leather. Rob Halford, the frontman of Judas Priest, was the one who launched heavy metal fashion by dressing head to toe in leather and metal. With his stage presence and astonishing four-octave vocal range, he is one of the most charismatic singers in the history of the genre.

Several Judas Priest releases are featured on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 greatest metal albums of all time. In 2020, they celebrated their 50th anniversary, but due to the pandemic and health issues affecting Richie Faulkner, the tour was postponed until 2022. The anniversary tour eventually reached Budapest’s Sportaréna.

Also in 2022, Priest members – Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, Ian Hill and Scott Travis – were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Alice Cooper. In 2025, Priest also received their fifth Grammy nomination for the song Crown of Horns.
