Campus Festival Maintains Record Attendance
This year, Campus Festival once again demonstrated that it is far more than a major music event: it is a meeting place where, alongside concerts by international stars and Hungary’s most popular performers, science, culture, sport, charity and community experiences also play an important role. For four days, Debrecen’s Great Forest was once again filled with music and life, while the festival’s diverse programme offered visitors of all ages and musical tastes the opportunity to find their own unique Campus experience. The festival’s biggest concerts once again attracted tens of thousands of people this year. On the opening day, Azahriah’s performance drew an enormous crowd, while the following evenings saw one highly anticipated appearance after another. In addition to several other successful performances, concerts by Majka, Armin van Buuren, Scooter, Halott Pénz and Pogány Induló attracted near-capacity crowds in front of the main stages. A particularly special event was the return of Kispál és a Borz to Debrecen after a long absence, marking the band’s only performance in Eastern Hungary during the summer of 2026.
The festival’s attendance peak was recorded during Scooter’s Saturday night concert. The German group’s energetic and visually spectacular performance transformed the Great Forest into a vast open-air dance floor and provided a fitting conclusion to the 18th Campus Festival’s main stage programme. Meanwhile, the smaller venues offered a wide range of genres, from rock and alternative music to hip-hop, world music and electronic music, preserving Campus Festival’s diverse and welcoming atmosphere.
“When putting together this year’s programme, our aim was not simply to offer a handful of headline concerts, but to create an entire musical and cultural world. Campus derives its strength precisely from the fact that, alongside international stars and the country’s most popular performers, alternative bands, rock artists and young talents at the beginning of their careers are equally able to find their audience. Across 21 programme venues, something was happening almost continuously, allowing every visitor to create their own entirely unique Campus experience,” said Programme Director András Süli.
This year’s Campus Festival was not only about entertainment but also about exemplary social solidarity. During the festival’s opening ceremony on Wednesday evening, a donation of HUF 18 million was presented to support the overseas gene therapy treatments of two young boys from Debrecen, Ádin and Beni, both living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The amount was raised through the joint efforts of Campus Festival’s organisers, partners and supporters. Charity and social responsibility have become defining elements of the festival’s ethos in recent years.
For the first time, Csokonai National Theatre moved onto the festival site with its own tent, creating a genuine theatrical oasis. Every day, from afternoon until evening, the company welcomed audiences with musical and dramatic performances, as well as creative, dance, bibliotherapy and mental wellbeing programmes. Visitors were able to try on theatrical costumes and props, and take part in personality tests, quizzes and skill-based games.
The visual arts programmes of Art Street, the Street Theatre Cavalcade, Civil Village, sports and dance demonstrations, board games, the open-air gallery and the light installations located throughout the festival site further reinforced Campus Festival’s cultural and family-friendly character. The giant steampunk-inspired vehicles of Abacus Theater from the Netherlands proved particularly popular. The Richter Family Grove was likewise a major attraction, with hundreds of children and families participating daily in its playful, creative and educational activities. During the daytime, the grove became one of the festival’s most popular community spaces.
Campus Festival once again placed a strong emphasis on safe and responsible entertainment. Underage and adult visitors were distinguished by different wristbands, while an anonymous harm reduction point operated throughout all four days of the festival. Specialists provided visitors with cooled rest areas, refreshments, vitamins, counselling and, where necessary, assistance in arranging further medical care.
The operation of the festival was made possible by nearly a year of preparation, a two-week construction period and the work of thousands of people. Approximately 500 people took part in building the festival site, while almost 2,000 people were working on-site at any one time during the event. Around 300 specialists handled technical operations, while more than 200 staff members ensured visitor safety during peak periods. The festival’s four days passed without any extraordinary incidents.
“This year’s Campus Festival once again demonstrated that the true strength of this event lies in its community. We are proud of our main stages and our international stars, but our university programmes, smaller venues, families, local performers and the encounters that can only happen here in the Great Forest are equally important to us. It is especially significant for us that 121,000 people chose Campus Festival once again this year. This is not only an outstanding achievement, but also a great responsibility. We thank our audience, performers, partners and the thousands of people working behind the scenes who made this year’s Campus Festival possible,” said Managing Director Péter Miklósvölgyi.
The next Campus Festival will take place between 14 and 18 July, 2027. The event’s popularity is demonstrated by the fact that Super Early Bird passes for next year are expected to sell out within just a few hours.
