CATL Debrecen Becomes World’s First RSCI-certified Battery Plant
In May 2026, CATL’s Debrecen plant became the world’s first battery factory to obtain the official certification of the Responsible Supply Chain Initiative (RSCI), the company announced on Monday.
According to the statement, this achievement places CATL among the few battery manufacturers worldwide whose operations are recognised through an official international certification. The professional recognition confirms the consistent efforts made by CATL Debrecen in the field of responsible corporate operation.
The Responsible Supply Chain Initiative was launched in 2021 by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) with the participation of 14 leading industry players, including Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and BMW to support the sustainable development of the automotive supply chain through a unified evaluation system. The official certification can be awarded to companies that achieve outstanding results in corporate social responsibility, environmental management and workplace safety.
During the rigorous audit carried out in April 2026, CATL Debrecen achieved a score of 86 out of 100 without any major or critical deficiencies, earning this high-level industry recognition from leading European car manufacturers. The result could significantly strengthen customer confidence, improve product competitiveness and increase the brand’s international visibility.
The certification will also make it easier for CATL to enter the supplier chains of major European car manufacturers. According to the statement, this milestone offers new opportunities for strengthening CATL’s European presence, supporting its international expansion and further developing its global supply network.
