Parents can register for the Junior Debrecen City Card later if their child is eligible.
As is known, children under six years of age have always had free travel on local public transport. In January last year, the Debrecen City Council allowed free travel on local public transport (DKV) for students under 14 who attend kindergarten or school in Debrecen. Parents must apply for a Junior Debrecen City Card and show it to the ticket inspectors.
Since the Debrecen Junior City Card was introduced, 14,500 children have applied. When the school year ends, many of these children will have reached the age of 14.
As the application and production of the card takes time, the local public transport company (DKV Debreceni Közlekedési Zrt.) will accept from 1 September until the beginning of October, children who are entitled to the Junior Debrecen City Card but do not yet have a card, the presentation of a photo document proving their age, be it an identity card, student card or passport.
The main rules are:
- free travel on local public transport (DKV) for students aged between 6 and 14 years who attend kindergarten or school in Debrecen
- children who do not live in Debrecen but attend kindergartens and schools in the city can also use this service,
- the student pass will be available through the Debrecen City Card and the newly created Debrecen Junior City Card,
- children will also be able to enjoy a wide range of benefits and discounts already available with the city card,
- children’s legal representatives can apply for the city card via the dedicated online interface,
- issued plastic cards with a name will be forwarded to the public education institutions of eligible children and their parents,
- those who turn 14 years of age before 31 August of the school year in question may also use the card until 31 August
