Chinese scientist awarded honorary doctorate
The topic of discussion at the Doctor Honoris Causa Symposium on Thursday was the harmonisation of medical research in traditional Chinese medicine, the role of artificial intelligence, network pharmacology, and the possibilities of new-generation pharmaceuticals and theranostics.
As unideb.hu reports, “Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and director of the Interdisciplinary Research Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Tsinghua University, Li Shao, who received the title of Honorary Doctor of the University of Debrecen on Friday, presented his research results at the scientific meeting.”
“The University of Debrecen is on the threshold of a very promising future. Our strategic partner institution, Tsinghua University, is currently the world’s leading higher education institution in the field of artificial intelligence, to which, among other things, the algorithms of the Chinese artificial intelligence application, DeepSeek, can be linked. The time has come for us to learn technologies from our Chinese partners. The effectiveness of our collaborations is demonstrated by the embeddedness of our university in the Chinese Silk Road Industrial Development Network and the fact that next year the University Network For Research Collaboration: A Belt and Road Science and Technology Initiative (IUNRC) will hold its annual presidential roundtable forum at the University of Debrecen. Today’s symposium and the presentation by Director of the Interdisciplinary Research Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Tsinghua University, Li Shao, are an indicator of this process,” Zoltán Szilvássy said at the opening of the scientific conference.
“By creating a bridge between traditional Chinese medicine and Western biomedical sciences, Professor Li points the way towards a future in which precision and personalised medicine will become decisive. This vision not only inspires the scientific community but also gives hope for the development of a more comprehensive, efficient, and people-centered global healthcare system,” Zoltán Szilvássy explained.
As the rector of the University of Debrecen said, ”The awarding of the honorary doctorate title to Professor Li Shao is a milestone of historical significance in the life of the University of Debrecen, as it is the first time in the five hundred years of its existence that a Chinese scientist has received this highest academic honor.”
